Ecclesiastes 3:1 (AMP) – To everything there is a season, a time for every matter or purpose under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 (ERV) – There is a right time for everything, and everything on earth will happen at the right time

I have a poster on my office wall that defines efficient and effective. Efficient means doing things right and effective means doing the right things. As close as they are, they are not the same. An efficient person may not be effective, but an effective person will also be efficient. A skilled person is efficient, because he or she has the knowledge, capability and competency, but for him or her to be effective, an understanding of contexts, being tactful and applying wisdom is vital.

Like effective and efficient, Ecclesiastes 3:1 sheds light on two types of timing – season and time. While season talks about appropriateness of time as set by God, time within the context of an issue, matter or purpose is knowing when that matter should be tackled. Let us take my being born for example; God, in His infinite wisdom thought it best for me to come into the world when I did. The people who could appreciate that season were my parents. I will not bug you with the stories, but they kept telling me I came at the right time or season- my dad had escaped death in the north. He had fled to the south not knowing if he would meet any family member. My mum on the other hand was young and her cousin whom she lived with desired a young, well-mannered man for her as a husband. My being born gave my parents an assurance they were not alone. They insist God planned it. However, being born had to happen. I had stayed in-utero for nine months, labour was inevitable and I had to be expelled from the womb. That is the expected result of labour!

How do these two timings work together then? Verse 11 of the same chapter says: He has made everything beautiful in its time (season), emphasis mine. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy]….. (AMP). This means while I am proposing in my heart to do something, I can also ask God if it is the season and begin to channel all resources and energies towards fulfilling the plans and dreams within the season. The truth is that when the time is right, like a ripe crop, harvest is easy and full of expectation.

Almost five years ago, I purposed in my heart to release a new album. I had gone into the studio and laid tracks. In response to fans’ demands not to be incommunicado, I staged a concert and produced what I called promo copies of the album. But it wasn’t the set time to release. My producer relocated to another country and I got a job in another part of the country immediately after the concert. Looking back now, all these happened so we could build our contact and financial bases.  By the time we started discussing again in the early months of 2014, we knew the set time had come. My resolve to have a new album project aligned with God’s the set time; everything around gave us indications to go! I’m done now and Uduak Daniel – a 15 track album is here! It is a beautiful thing because it has come at the right time, using the right human and material assistance.

Friends this year exploit the privilege we have to let our plans align with God’s set time. The good thing is that we always sense what season we are in concerning a matter. The circumstances around you will indicate the season as it concerns that matter. Whatever season it is – planning, serving, waiting…..it is working toward the ultimate season where all will be beautiful. Don’t be in a hurry, just give it time. It will surely come. LIVE!
