GOING BEYOND LIMITS

It is typical for most people make New Year resolutions, the reason for this is that they desire to overcome certain limits that had been set in certain areas of their lives. Most New Year resolutions are either to delete some undesirable things or to improve on existing ones. Unfortunately, some people struggle to stick to their resolutions; and when they cannot, they go back to old ways confining themselves to the old settings. A limit can be defined as the final, utmost, or furthest boundary or point as to extent, amount, continuance, procedure, etc. The mistake people make however is that they tend to address limits exclusively. This is wrong, limiting conditions are not exclusive, there are root causes. Most times these conditions are spiritual ones that take a toll on the mind and affect the body. Addressing those limits physically only is akin to putting the cart before the horse. It is therefore imperative that, for us to deal with any limiting condition successfully, we must get the guidelines from the word of God.
The world presents those who can afford the basic needs of life or are popular as having gone beyond limits. The irony is that most of these people still battle with limitations. Because they are regarded as icons and probably do not want to loose that status, they resort to extreme remedies to deal with them – murder, suicide, substance abuse etcetera. The truth is that only God can help us correctly identify those limiting conditions, the root causes and He delights in ensuring that we go beyond those we wish to go beyond. You notice I say those we wish to go beyond? This is because it is a choice and God respects our choices. “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that works in us,….”  (Ephesians 3: 20-21. NKJV). This scripture tells us that God acts on what we ask or think. If God has a stake in our affairs, all limits are definitely surmountable. This is core.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we can ask or think,…”. When we begin to see God as being able to help us beyond limits, we cease to struggle. The world’s approach is to deploy efforts, God’s approach is for us to acknowledge that He had overcome all, commit our ways to Him, listen for directives and yield to instructions. “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end” (Jeremiah 29:11).
As far as God is concerned, going beyond limits is a mind thing hear Him, “….whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them]” (Philipians 4:8 Amp.). Herein lies the strength to obey, the wisdom to deploy and the grace to give Him the glory for helping us go beyond those limits. Soar limitlessly in 2016!
