Every human being is born with the God-given ability to be, do or act; it is called power. The Hebrew word for this type of power is koach, pronounced ko akh. Koach refers to all types of human strengths- inert and conferred, power of angels, power of God, power of animals as well as the strength of elements, like the soil. Because power is manifest through effort, ability, strength, authority, control and such like, too many people depend on their human strengths and some people even go extra lengths to get extra powers from other sources but God. However, this is not God’s plan.
God’s plan is for us to exercise the power that goes beyond the general providence we have as humans. Unlike other sources of power that require that one engages in some form of effort to get it, God’s requirement is simply belief, trust and yieldedness. There is a higher level of power that is gotten with one receiving Jesus Christ as lord and depending totally on Him. “by the name of Jesus every knee bows…
As simple as it sounds, total dependence on God is in itself very empowering. Our power can only take us thus far. God is interested in us becoming more like Him so he can work through us. Sometimes our mental training keeps us away from allowing God; we tend to respond more to our reasoning than what the word of God says because what we have received over the years takes time to be renewed. That’s why Paul said he died daily….. The fact that the world holds the view that there are no absolutes does not mean it is true, Life is largely informed by the spiritual than physical. We need to go beyond our human potentials or strengths because there are lots of issues we cannot handle by ourselves. We have all heard about the challenges very powerful people go through. Because this is not about physical control or strength, they fail to handle things.
There is so much happening around that we cannot afford to work with our limited power. There are so many spheres to conquer. We need God’s power to create, govern, deliver and judge on all spheres. “behold I give you power to tread upon serpents and scorpions….. When we allow God work through us, all other powers are subject to ours, even when they attempt. Why? Because we only enforce the victory He had accomplished. We are more than conquerors! “Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]– (Ephesians 3:20.
